The Odisha state government requested the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau to investigate the smuggling route used to bring the primates into India. The Special Task Force of the Odisha Crime Branch joined the probe on 9 September 2026 and reviewed CCTV footage at airports, ports, and railway stations.
