Introduction:
In September 2024, researchers announced the discovery of a new species of water flea, named Bryospilus (Indobryospilus) bharaticus n. sp., at Korigad Fort near Pune. This species is notable as it is the first of its kind found in Tropical Asia. The research marks the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats, an area known for its unique ecosystems.
