Introduction:

India’s first National Centre of Excellence for Green Port & Shipping (NCoEGPS) was announced by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

What is Maritime Vision Document 2030?

The Maritime Vision Document 2030 was released by the Indian Government. It is a 10-day roadmap to achieve India’s vision of sustainable growth of the maritime sector and blue economy.  It identified 150 initiatives across 10 major themes to bring India to the forefront of the global maritime sector. The themes are:

  1. Develop best-in-class port infrastructure
  2. Drive exchange-to-exchange logistics efficiency and cost competitiveness
  3. Boost the logistics sector’s efficiency via innovation and technology
  4. Strengthen institutional and policy framework to support all stakeholders
  5. Increase global share in ship building, repair and recycling
  6. Boost cargo and passenger movement through inland waterways
  7. Promote the growth of ocean, coastal and river cruise sector
  8. Enhance India’s global stature and promote maritime cooperation
  9. Lead the world in safe, sustainable and green maritime sector
  10. Make India top seafaring nation with world class education, research and training

India is currently planning to increase the share of renewable energy of each of its major ports to 60 per cent from the present share of less than 10 per cent. This will be achieved via the wind and solar power.
