Introduction:
NITI Aayog has recently hosted the inaugural edition of Shoonya Forum in Delhi to commemorate the first anniversary of Shoonya Campaign.
Highlights:
- At the Shoonya Forum, 25 Shoonya partners have announced their commitment to accelerate India’s transition to Electronic Vehicles and improve air quality for citizens in the country.
- They have shared their success stories and commitment towards fleet electrification.
- The forum provided opportunities for partners to share their know-hows and experiences and promoted potential collaborations.
- Focused discussions were held on challenges faced by corporates while scaling their electric vehicle fleets.
- The event was attended by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, NITI Aayog CEO Param Iyer, MyGov CEO Abhishek Singh, Delhi Government Principal Secretary Ashish Kundra, Mahindra Electric Mobility CEO Suman Mishra and others.
- During this event, a three-report series highlighting the economic benefits of indigenous battery industry in India was released.
- The National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Energy Storage (Part III) report highlighted India’s 2.5 billion USD production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for advanced chemistry cell (ACC) energy storage’s key role in meeting the estimated cumulative battery demand of 106 to 260 GWh by the end of this decade.
- The PLI scheme would play a major role in India’s EV adoption and grid decarbonisation.
- This is critical since urban freight vehicles account for 10% of freight transportation-related carbon dioxide emissions in India and these emissions are expected to spike by 114% by 2030.
- The EVs, on the other hand, emit 15-40% less carbon dioxide than their internal combustion engine counterparts and have lesser operational cost during the manufacturing process.
Shoonya Campaign
Shoonya Campaign aims to promote the use of EVs for ride hailing and delivery services and minimise air pollution caused by these services. The campaign has 130 industry partners, including ride-hailing, delivery and EV companies.
