Introduction:
To develop the State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SBSAP) a pact has been inked by Arunachal Pradesh with WWF India. The SBSAP will be aligning with the Pakke Declaration and the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
Overview:
- In New Delhi, the agreement between WWF India and Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board (APSBB) was inked.
- This meeting was presided by Mama Natung, state Environment, and Forest Minister.
How will the SBSAP be developed?
Through a participatory approach and multi-stakeholder consultations, the SBSAP will be developed.
Importance of this pact
- This pact will be showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s participatory conservation initiatives and will be looking to develop an action plan that will be inclusive in nature and will be looking to secure nature’s contribution to people.
- The plan will also be reflecting the people as well as the state’s aspirations toward sustainable development.
About Pakke Declaration
- In 2021, the “Pakke Tiger Reserve 2047 Declaration on Climate Change Resilient and Responsive Arunachal Pradesh” was adopted by the state government and aims to promote development that is climate-resilient in the state.
- This declaration also focuses on multi-sectoral approaches for climate-resilient development and low emission which are based on five themes which are Health and Well-being for all; Environment, Forest, and Climate Change; Livelihoods, and opportunities; Sustainable and Adaptive living; and Evidence generation, and collaborative action.
